Decisions and uncertainty

How much information is enough before you decide

If one more fact would not change the choice, or what you will do next week, you can stop.

Placeholder

English stub of the Chinese placeholder. It is an outline, not a finished essay, and it does not reproduce anyone else’s article.

Separate two gaps

One gap is a fact that would change the options. The other is the feeling of being sure enough. Only the first one is a reason to keep looking.

A place to stop

Write the options down. Ask whether the next piece of information would change the choice, or change the action you will take next week. If it would not, the search can pause. The decision can be small.

Three lines

  1. What you will do, or not do.
  2. The loss you can accept.
  3. The concrete next step this week.

Placeholder. The finished piece should add sources and walk one real decision through these three lines.
